Continuing on with your studies after high school can cost a lot of money these days. However, it doesn’t have to cost you that much to pay for college if you take a CLEP test. It’s almost like getting free classes without the cost when you test out of college classes.
One thing colleges and universities is good for is making you take classes you don’t really need. Since you’re coming from high school into college, you just spent several years taking math, science, English, literature, and history classes. When you sign up for your degree, you’ll find you still have to take the same classes, again. Using CLEP to test out of these college classes can save you a ton of money. Why take a class if you don’t have to?
College and universities don’t have a choice about the classes they offer for their degrees. The accreditation committee says they have to include classes in math, science, English, literature, and history to make sure you know the information. But that doesn’t mean you can’t test out of college classes you already know. Taking a CLEP test can not only save money, but it gives you a chance to take other courses that you do need without the extra costs.
CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program. Some high schools have this program, but mostly you’ll find the college of your choice does also. You can take the test, so you don’t have to take the class. If you want to get through your degree faster, taking CLEP tests is the fastest way to earn your degree.
The test includes all the information in the class, and since most college classes cost $1500 per class, taking a CLEP test costs around $100. That includes the test as well as the proctor fee. Most colleges have the tests several times a week, all year long. It’s a terrific way to cut down on your college tuition. When you pass the test, you receive college credit instead of taking the class. If you’re coming right out of high school, then you don’t actually need more English or math classes, unless you didn’t do very well in them while in high school.
Taking a CLEP test is much easier than wasting a whole semester on a subject you already know. You receive the same grade as well as the college credit for the class. Normally, you take 4 to 6 classes per semester, when you test out of a college class you can take 2 or 3 classes per semester. Or you can accelerator your degree with testing out of the classes you already know and finish your degree in half the time.
The tests are multi-choice, but if you already know the information you won’t even have to study for them. Taking a CLEP test can save a ton of money on college courses, plus they get you through your degree much faster.
